Camping at John Martin Reservoir
Developed camp sites are located downstream from the dam near Lake Hasty.
These facilities include sheltered tables, grills and fireplaces, toilets,
and drinking water. Electrical sites carry a nominal fee of $11.00 per night
and non-electrical sites are $8.00 per night, May - Oct. Check-in time
is before 10:00 p.m. and check out time is 2:00 p.m. Lake Hasty campgound
honors Golden Age and Golden Access cards. For Camping Reservation:Call
1-877-444-6777 and ask for Lake Hasty Campground (First-Come-First-Serve
Basis). The rangers at John Martin provide a variety of tours and activities
throughout the camping season.
For those who enjoy a more primitive camping experience, the west
side of John Martin Reservoir provides an abundance of sandy beach camping
areas. There is no fee associated with camping in this area. However, these
shores are among the few remaining nesting areas in Colorado for the threatened
Piping Plover and the endangered Interior Least Tern. Some areas
may be fenced to protect these birds. Disturbing these shore birds is a violation
of state and federal laws.
Tent and RV campers alike enjoy the beauty, wildlife, and water sports
of Southeastern Colorado as they visit John Martin Reservoir. Bring
your binoculars and watch the waterfowl and other wild animal life around
the reservoir.
